Deep drawing is a highly efficient way to shape hollow, seamless, and 3D metal components from sheet metal sheets. It is particularly suitable if a part is to be drawn greater depth, a consistent shape, and a clean one-piece structure that may be difficult to achieve through conventional stamping or bending.
At FLUIDO, we provide custom deep drawn parts as part of our OEM metal manufacturing capabilities. From simple cylindrical components to more complex housings and formed sheet metal parts, we can manufacture components according to your drawings, samples, dimensions, material requirements, and application needs.
Deep drawn parts are metal components, made from a flat sheet metal blank into a die using a punch. They create a deeper three-dimensional shape.
This process can produce a variety of forms, including: Cylindrical deep drawn parts, Cups and sleeves, Metal housings and enclosures, Covers and caps and Custom industrial sheet metal components.
Depending on the required geometry, a part may be formed in one deep drawing operation or through several drawing and forming stages.

The deep drawing process starts with a flat sheet metal blank. The blank is positioned over a die, while a punch presses the material into the die cavity.
1. Material Preparation
According to the application, required strength, corrosion resistance, appearance, and forming requirements, appropriate sheet metal material and thickness are selected.
2. Blanking
The sheet is cut into a suitable blank size and shape before forming.
3. Deep Drawing
A punch pushes the blank into the die cavity, forming the basic three-dimensional shape of the component.
4. Re-Deep Drawing
For parts with greater depth or more complex dimensions, multiple drawing operations may be required to gradually achieve the final shape.
5. Trimming and Secondary Operations
Excess material can be removed after drawing. Additional operations such as punching, drilling, bending, threading, embossing, or other forming processes can also be performed according to the part design.
6. Surface Finishing and Inspection
The finished deep drawn metal parts can receive suitable surface treatment and undergo dimensional and visual inspection before shipment.
Common material options include:
Stainless steel
Carbon steel
Mild steel
Aluminum
Copper
Brass
Other metal alloys according to project requirements
Deep drawing is a type of sheet metal forming process, but it is different from conventional stamping operations.
Conventional stamping is often used for cutting, punching, bending, embossing, or relatively shallow forming. Deep drawing is more suitable when the design requires a deeper three-dimensional or hollow structure.
Deep drawing can also be combined with other stamping operations. For example, a component may first be deep drawn and then trimmed, punched, bent, or embossed to achieve the final design.
This makes deep drawing particularly useful for OEM components that require multiple forming operations within one manufacturing project.
Consistent Production
Once the tooling and process parameters are established, deep drawing can provide repeatable part geometry for batch production.
Efficient Material Use
The forming process uses the existing sheet metal blank to create the component, which can be more efficient than manufacturing the same shape from multiple fabricated pieces.
Dimensional consistency is important for deep drawn components, especially when the parts are installed into other assemblies.
Depending on the project requirements, inspection can cover:
Overall dimensions
Part depth and diameter
Wall and material thickness
Hole position and size
Forming accuracy
Surface condition
Edge condition
Material verification
Functional dimensions
Inspection requirements can be agreed upon before production according to the customer’s drawings and quality standards.
