Investment Casting

What Is Investment Casting?

Investment casting, is a manufacturing process used to produce highly precise and complex metal parts with excellent surface finish. It involves creating a wax pattern of the desired part, coating it with a ceramic shell, melting away the wax, and then pouring molten metal into the cavity.

This process is widely used across industries that require tight tolerances, intricate geometries, and high-performance materials.

Our Investment Casting Capabilities

Investment casting, is a precision manufacturing process used to produce complex metal parts with excellent surface finish and tight tolerances. The process is ideal for stainless steel, carbon steel, alloy steel, and other high-performance materials.

1. Wax Pattern Production

The process begins by injecting molten wax into a precision mold to create a wax pattern that matches the final casting shape. Multiple wax patterns can be produced quickly and accurately for mass production.

2. Pattern Assembly

The wax patterns are attached to a central wax runner system, forming a “tree” structure. This assembly creates channels that allow molten metal to flow smoothly into each casting cavity during pouring.

3. Ceramic Shell Building

The complete wax assembly is repeatedly dipped into ceramic slurry and coated with refractory sand. Each layer is dried before the next coating is applied, gradually building a strong ceramic shell around the wax patterns.

4. Dewaxing and Shell Firing

After the ceramic shell hardens, the assembly is heated to melt and remove the wax, leaving a hollow cavity inside the shell. The ceramic mold is then fired at high temperature to improve its strength and prepare it for metal pouring.

5. Molten Metal Pouring

Molten metal is poured into the preheated ceramic mold under controlled conditions. The liquid metal fills the cavity left by the wax pattern and solidifies into the desired shape.

6. Shell Removal and Finishing

Once the metal cools, the ceramic shell is broken away to reveal the raw casting. The parts are then cut from the runner system and undergo finishing processes such as grinding, machining, polishing, heat treatment, and surface coating according to project requirements.

7. Final Inspection and Delivery

Each casting is inspected for dimensional accuracy, surface quality, and mechanical performance before shipment. Investment casting produces near-net-shape parts that reduce machining costs and improve production efficiency.
